As it is with all stories, fast cars, wild bears, mental illness, and even life, only one truth remains: your mileage may vary.
The Start of a New Chapter
Hello, hello! You’ve probably wondered, “What happened to her?” Well, returning to America was rough! For months I dreamed of coming home to a surprise “Welcome Home!” party. I thought I would travel around, visiting friends. More importantly, I expected my family and I to be pal-ing around: camping, attending birthday parties, swimming, and such.
Yeah, well, dreams don’t always come true.
On 4 June 2015, I spoke to a room of students about the Fulbright Program and my experience as an American teaching English in Slovakia. Many of my audience members were delighted to see their own smiling faces in my PowerPoint presentation. Since this week marked the beginning of classes at Gymnázium Viliama Paulinyho-Tótha, I thought I’d return to GVPT–albeit virtually. I stumbled across this article while browsing through updates.
Living in the Slovak Republic
August 2014–July 2015
Since my Fulbright experience is over, this post is a friendly reminder…
This blog is not an official Fulbright Program site. The views expressed on this site are entirely my own and do not represent the views of the Fulbright Program, the U.S. Department of State or any of its partner organizations.
Thank you, readers, for your interest and support! Feel free to contact me with questions. Dobrý den!
I made it! On time. And in one piece. 21 hours after I woke up, I found myself talking to my mom and sister. “Crazy!” Is the only word I could think of to describe being back in the US. For now, I am adjusting to Eastern Standard Time… and chillin’ with my new buddy Hannah (see picture above). Soon I hope to see the rest of my family, and share my adventures with them.
The past 310–325 days have been incredible. These days have been a series of adventures–and occasional misadventures–strung together to make one long journey. I’ve grown professionally and personally. For that, I am immensely grateful for the encouragement and support of my WV Wesleyan family, close friends, and relatives. I don’t think I could have survived a year abroad without you. Thank you.
Eating breakfast, and ready to head out the door! AMERICA, HERE I COME!!! Taxis, Airplanes, and Country Roads, take me home.
